The Austin Metro League (AML) Championship is just a few days away! Approximately fifty area teams will join us at Vandegrift High School on Saturday, January 21 as two separate League Championships are run simultaneously in the Competition Gym. Each Championship will advance ~8 teams to the FTC Alamo Region Championship (aka Regionals). The next ~5 teams will advance to the Alamo Region Wild Card Qualifier in San Antonio February 17-18. The Wild Card will be the last chance for Austin area FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) teams to advance to Regionals held February 23 – 25 in San Antonio. This year’s game, Velocity Vortex, is deceptively easy and allows teams a variety of solutions to make their robots competitive with the most complex aspects focusing separately on the software engineering in autonomous and mechanical engineering in the end-game and for the teams that bridge these two well – they can be unstoppable.
Opening ceremonies will take place at 12:30pm in the VHS Competition Gym. The public, parents, family and friends of ViperBots and participating teams are invited to support and cheer on the robotics teams. The fifty teams were split into one of four leagues this season – the Clubs League, the Diamonds League, the Hearts League and the Spades League – which make up the Austin Metro League. For the League Championship, two leagues will combine and compete together – Championship 1: Clubs & Hearts (6210) and Championship 2: Spades (6299, 7161) & Diamonds (4545, 4546, 6209, 11503). Just for fun, the winners of Championship 1 and Championship 2 will vie for the title of Event Champion and the newly established Austin Cup which includes bragging rights and possession of the cup for a full year!
Keep up with scores online, ViperBots! Those who cannot cheer on the ViperBots in person, may keep up with scores online. Tune in beginning at 12:45pm. Share with family and friends! GO ViperBots!
